Alongside the annual Chocolate Bonus program held each June, Puratos Grand-Place Vietnam continues its yearly seedling support initiative as part of its commitment to helping farmers build a more sustainable cacao supply chain.
This year, more than 87,000 cocoa seedlings and 14,000 shade trees have been distributed to farmers across key cocoa-growing regions. Of these, 80,000 cocoa seedlings were delivered to farming communities in Daklak, Lam Dong, Binh Phuoc, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, encouraging farmers to expand cocoa cultivation while helping reduce the cost of establishing new plantations. The remaining 7,150 cocoa seedlings and over 14,000 forest trees were provided by Puratos and its partner PUR Project to 42 farmers in Daklak and Lam Dong. This support promotes diversified agroforestry systems that strengthen farm resilience, improve biodiversity, and create more sustainable long-term livelihoods for farming families.
This annual initiative is strongly supported by local authorities, reinforcing farmers’ confidence in the long-term potential of cocoa cultivation in Vietnam
Beyond providing high-quality seedlings, Puratos' technical team works directly with farmers in the field, offering guidance on implementing agroforestry practices. A well-balanced integration of cocoa trees and shade trees enhances farm resilience, improves biodiversity, and lays the foundation for more sustainable cocoa cultivation.
In addition, Puratos and its local and international partners visited farmers who received seedlings from 2023 to 2025 to assess the effectiveness of the agroforestry model. Many farms have shown encouraging improvements, while an increasing number of farmers have voluntarily expanded their intercropping areas after witnessing the tangible benefits.
On an 8-hectare sloping hillside in Ea Kar, Dak Lak, Mr. Ha Van Thao and Mr. Truong Cong Dung currently cultivate around 3,700 cashew trees, but the economic returns have not yet met their expectations. In 2025, Puratos supported them with 800 cocoa seedlings to be intercropped under the cashew canopy, along with 1,600 forest trees to help diversify and increase their household income.

Sustainability is measured not only by the number of trees planted, but by the ability to build resilient cocoa-growing landscapes that are better adapted to climate change while strengthening household livelihoods through diversified income sources. This is also the long-term vision of the Cacao-Trace program.
